And both books were published in the US – there are secondhand copies from US sellers readily available on the likes of AbeBooks (bearing in mind Magnum was published as Red File for Callan in the States).<br /><br />And you're quite right about Cold War Swap, although events play out quite differently in the two novels. (Incidentally I've written about Thomas's novel a couple of times – <a href="http://www.existentialennui.com/2010/10/macs-place-quartet-spy-in-vodka-cold.html" rel="nofollow">here</a> and <a href="http://www.existentialennui.com/2010/11/cold-war-swap-by-ross-thomas-hodder.html" rel="nofollow">here</a>.)
