You'll be able to tell it's not a book club edition by checking to see if it has a price on the dustjacket front flap. If it does, you're on the right track.

The endpapers of the first printing are a pale yellow, so that's another indication. On the copyright page, it should state "Copyright © by Le Carre Productions. First printed 1974..." If there's nothing saying it's a second printing, again, things are looking good.

Finally, check the case. It should have a Hodder logo on the spine, and a gold debossed drawing of Smiley in the corner on the front.

That's about as much info as I can give you!Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-67936469212383320912011-04-18T09:40:00.004-04:002011-04-18T09:40:00.004-04:00Just wondering if you can share some of the featur...Just wondering if you can share some of the features of true first editions of this book? How do you know its not a book club? How do yuo know its not a later printing fo the same edition? I'd love to get myself a copy. Thanks for sharing.Sylvilagusnoreply@blogger.com
