That said, it's like anything really: once you know how to do it, it's not as difficult as you might think (although it still takes a lot of effort). Or as my old junior school teacher Mr. Howe used to say: it's easy when you know how.Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-76249721008261273402014-07-11T10:39:19.923-04:002014-07-11T10:39:19.923-04:00Congratulations on the launch of this book - it lo...Congratulations on the launch of this book - it looks fantastic. I own the Alan Moore and Osamu Tezuka books and each time I pick one up I am amazed by their design, layout, photography, art - all those production terms. It is very difficult to imagine how hard it is to produce such a book but this blog post at least confirms how mind-bogglingly difficult such work really is. (Frankly, I always assumed witchcraft was involved.) I have a lot of nice art books but I can figure out how they did it. These Ilex books are so beautiful and complex that they are works of art themselves. (And good to read, too.)Book Gluttonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569975755798562829noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-20277965087725334902014-07-11T09:08:09.352-04:002014-07-11T09:08:09.352-04:00Cheers Chris. Might have to track down a signed Penzler edition (I'm not sure if it was ever published over here).Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-29194587004140925352014-07-11T08:50:11.566-04:002014-07-11T08:50:11.566-04:00Felicitations on having been part of such a signif...Felicitations on having been part of such a significant endeavor, Nick. It's obvious just from the images you posted that this was a herculean labor. And no such book ever saw the light of day without a good editor in the mix. So much material, and it looks to be perfectly organized and presented.

And by the way, if you haven't read Donald Westlake's "A Likely Story" yet, now might be the perfect time. You'd get a good laugh out of it. While you were in the midst of this job, it might not have seemed so funny. ;)Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00271250698430923736noreply@blogger.com
