Same with "singular" and "queer." I think Doyle uses the word "singular" at least once per paragraph. But that's nothing compared to Watson "ejaculating" all over the place.

Seriously, you see this a lot:

"My dear Holmes!" I ejaculated.

No wonder modern literary critics are always reading homoerotic subtext into these stories. There's quite a lot of queer ejaculating going on.Craig D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/02798473771333728151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-44971250943519467802012-03-28T12:09:00.846-04:002012-03-28T12:09:00.846-04:00I'd forgotten about the John Grisham novel, Ke...I'd forgotten about the John Grisham novel, Kelly. I haven't read that, but yes, I suspect Household's novel, while shorter, is more than the equal of Grisham.Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-77776268253508403292012-03-28T10:50:44.227-04:002012-03-28T10:50:44.227-04:00I'll bet it's ten times better than the Gr...I'll bet it's ten times better than the Grisham of the same title.Kelly Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01752857506190488860noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-19938253266072618232012-03-28T03:41:36.158-04:002012-03-28T03:41:36.158-04:00Craig: I like the deployment of "capital"...Craig: I like the deployment of "capital" in the Scotsman notice. "Capital" has rather fallen out of favour as an endorsement. I might try and rectify that.

Matt: Jeremy Duns remarked to me that he'd read A Time to Kill but not A Rough Shoot, so I suspect you can read A Time to Kill without having tried the first book. But since many of the characters make it over into this one, it probably makes sense to read 'em both. Either way, you should be able to find inexpensive copies of the two novels on AbeBooks or Amazon Marketplace – and even first editions aren't too pricey – roughly £25 each for decent copies.Nick Jones (Louis XIV, the Sun King)https://www.blogger.com/profile/17716508525331235684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-39962822010037119582012-03-27T20:51:29.230-04:002012-03-27T20:51:29.230-04:00I came very close to buying a battered sixty-year-...I came very close to buying a battered sixty-year-old paperback copy of A Time to Kill this summer. Your post convinces me I made a mistake leaving it on the shelf; perhaps I'll remedy my error with a trip to AbeBooks. Perhaps it's for the best this way; I don't think the paperback I glanced at ever alluded to this being a sequel!Matt Keeleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06879233228833576188noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5448581132479481740.post-10725491710220566362012-03-27T17:42:44.136-04:002012-03-27T17:42:44.136-04:00The blurb from the Glasgow Herald is gold. And there's this guy, he's a good character. And then some other stuff happens. You should check it out. Is there any beer left?"Craig D.http://www.blogger.com/profile/02798473771333728151noreply@blogger.com
